
Meghan Murphy Beakman
General Counsel
Ms. Beakman represents the Nation in its municipal, real estate/tax, compact and business litigation, and she also oversees the work of outside counsel in these areas. She also represents the Nation's business enterprises, including Turning Stone Resort, Four Directions Air, and Standing Stone Gaming in litigation in federal and state courts and before administrative agencies. Her litigation on behalf of the Nation relates to taxation, business and contract disputes, intellectual property, property damage and other issues. Additionally, she represents the Nation in legal matters relating to its relationships with other governments, including federal agencies and neighboring municipalities.
Prior to joining the Nation's Legal Department, Ms. Beakman was a litigation attorney in the New York City office of White & Case LLP, where she represented some of the country's largest and most prominent companies and financial institutions in their litigation, and in the Syracuse office of Bond, Schoeneck & King, PLLC, where she frequently appeared in federal and state courts in a broad variety of commercial disputes.
Ms. Beakman graduated magna cum laude from the Syracuse University College of Law, where she was a member of the Syracuse Law Review, Order of the Coif, a member of the Justinian Honor Society, and an editor of The Labor Lawyer, a publication of the American Bar Association. Ms. Beakman also received her Masters in Public Administration from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. She received her Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Vermont. She is admitted to practice law in the State of New York and the U.S. District Court (NDNY, SDNY, and WDNY).
